Don’t Lose Focus

This word came to me after hearing Minister Tracey’s sermon about distractions. In her message, she stated that we need to focus on Jesus. Holy Spirit made that stand out to me, and I immediately thought about when Peter got out of the boat to walk on water toward Jesus in Matthew 14:28-31. It tells us that Peter got out of the boat and walked on the water to go to Jesus. But then we read that, as Peter walked on the water, the winds became strong. He lost focus on Jesus, became afraid, started to sink, and then cried out for Jesus to save him. Jesus saved him immediately.

Now ask yourself: didn’t Jesus come to him before he started sinking? The Holy Spirit then said, “Remember when you watched your children walk for the first time? You set them at a distance away from you, and their eyes were locked on you. You were watching not only them, but everything around them. And if they fell and began to cry, you would be right there to comfort them.” That blew my mind!

But then He took me to John 21:7, and in the verse it tells us that when Peter was told it was Jesus at the shore, he cast himself into the water and swam to Jesus. Then I started thinking, “Why didn’t Peter swim to Jesus when he started sinking?” Holy Spirit said, “Because Peter witnessed Jesus’ death and resurrection and now had a revelation of who Jesus is, so this time he kept his eyes on Jesus when he jumped out of the boat.”

And so I tell you, saints of God, do not lose focus on Jesus, even when the storms and winds come blowing strong. Keep your faith in Jesus. He will be with you through it all and see you through. Amen.

Receive the blessing: Lord, bless us and keep us. Make Your face shine upon us and be gracious to us. Lord, lift us up in Your countenance and keep us in Your peace. In Jesus’ mighty name, Amen.
